The major difference between the two is that a photonic integrated circuit provides functions for information signals imposed on optical wavelengths typically in the visible spectrum or near infrared 850 nm-1650 nm.” (from Wikipedia) Our InP PICs is based on InP materials system and it indicates it can integrated active component, such as laser, while this is very difficult for Si PICs technology.

What kind of Building Blocks(BBs) can InP PICs integrate?
InP PICs can integrate a wide range of actiave and passive BBs: wave-guide, coupler, filter, laser, optical amplifier, MMI, AWG, Bragg reflector, modulator, grating, photon detector, etc.

What function can InP PICs realize?
A wide applications can be made. Some examples are MMI-couplers and filters, Lidar, AWG-demux, polarisation independent differential delay lines, Fabry-Perot lasers, tunable DBR lasers, multiwavelength lasers, picosecond pulse laser, ring lasers, WDM cross connect, WDM add-drop, ultrafast switch, etc.

What advantages does InP PICs technology have?
Compared to conventional devices, PICs chips are much smaller, light weight, higher energy efficiency, better stability, suitable for high volume manufacturing, enabling designers more flexibility and innovation.
Compared to other materials based PICs, InP PICs chips can truly realize monolithic integration of active and passive BBs for a wide range of applications.

]]> VLC Photonics and ZHIWEI Photonics sign a partnership for Chinese market development http://www.freeruts.com/en/?p=106 Sat, 15 Feb 2020 22:28:51 +0000 http://www.freeruts.com/en/?p=106 更多 »]]> September 1st, 2016 – VLC Photonics, a leading pure-play photonic design house in Europe, and ZHIWEI Photonics, a chinese company working on the photonic integration field, announce that they have entered into an collaborative agreement, under which both parties will launch a long-term collaboration to market VLC’s services in the Great China District and jointly promote Photonic Integration Circuit (PIC) technology.

This agreement is an important step in the long-term corporative strategies for both companies. As Photonics Integration technology is better known globally, and it is more adopted by different markets, e.g., optical communications, sensing, quantum optics, and biophotonics, it is critical for small companies to collaborate in order to explore new geographical markets and transfer PIC technology into different industries. “The Chinese market for photonic integration has been quickly growing, and potentially can be very large in the upcoming years” – Zhaofu Wang, General Manager of ZHIWEI Photonics explains.

The collaborative partnership will address the challenges that customers in the Great China District are facing as they apply photonic integration to miniaturize and optimize their optical systems. This partnership is intended to provide a strong service offering, and as I?igo Artundo, CEO of VLC Photonics says: “the ultimate goal is to serve Chinese customers with solutions that are perfectly adapted to their needs, and allow them to carry out their integration projects in the smoothest way”.
